The Venerable Alice Pack
The pinnacle of military packs is the Alice pack. They do have newer Molly Rigs that are a little bit more modular that use a plastic backing on them. I haven't met anyone that really likes those. I don't think they've quite nail it down. Not to say that Alice is perfect but Alice has been tried-and-true in many years of service. However, the newer packs are not the subject of this article. We will be talking about the original Alice pack, the large pack to be specific.
Lots Of Cargo Space
Now because of the metal external frame, the large Alice pack weighs between 8 and 9 pounds. It does have a large top loading opening and provides lots of storage room. It includes three top mag pouches plus 3 main pouches on the lower half. There is a small sleeve inside that is not quite big enough for a bladder but you could put a bladder inside the pack if you wanted to.
Great Ergonomics Under A Heavy Load
With the external frame your back will stay much cooler because the frame holds the mass of the pack off of your back allowing air circulation. Additionally, with the external frame, the shoulder straps, and the hip straps all working together the Alice pack stays snug on your back. It does not allow leaning and swaying which can fatigue you quickly under a heavy load. You can easily put a huge tent on the bottom and a sleeping bag on the top and still have an enormous amount of capacity. As an added benefit you could take the pack off the frame and get countless uses with the frame alone.
Conclusion
In an SHTF situation, the Alice pack will come in quite handy. Whether you have to bug out and carry your stuff with you, or bug in and make supply runs. Be sure to look for the original U.S. issue Alice packs and avoid the cheaper made knockoffs.

Paraphrased Transcription or That Is…
The preceding article is a paraphrased transcription of the related video. Transcribing word for word most videos found on Youtube would assuredly result in confused reading. Let’s face it, most Youtube videos are a mixture of information and personal ramblings. For that reason, the transcriptionist will attempt to glean the information from the video and then employ paraphrasing to restate that information into logical written text. Additionally, the transcriptionist does not attempt to change, or in any way distort, the original intent of the videographer.
