Massacre In Port Arthur

On April 28, 1996 a man named Martin Bryant and described by his sentencing judge as a “pathetic social misfit”, used two semi-automatic rifles to gun down 35 people in Port Arthur in Australia. This spurred the 1996-1997 long-gun confiscation in Australia which according to Williams D. (2008) “…12 years on, new research suggests the government response to Port Arthur was a waste of public money and has made no difference to the country's gun-related death rates.” The self proclaimed architect of that long-gun confiscation is a woman named Rebecca Peters. Rebecca Peters, among other things, has been the director of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) which is a global organization against gun violence.

Stay Passionate About Protecting Your Rights

Okay, this is old news but I believe it is essential that we don’t forget so we can remain vigilant and hungry. When I say hungry I mean passionate. We should not allow the passion for our freedom to wane because we have become comfortable and unchallenged. In fact, one of the great strategies is to let your opponent start to feel secure and let their defenses down. If you back off for a while, they will become complacent. When they let their guard down they are ripe for attack.

Gun Control Advocates Working Subversively

As far as our second amendment rights are concerned I believe we are falling into that state of complacency. Lately, we haven't seen many high-profile attacks on our right to own firearms and most of the political rhetoric today is based around terrorism and the economy. My fear is that while Americans are focused on these things as well as the looming elections the gun control advocates are silently working in the background for their next attack.

Foreign Enemies Of Our Constitution

Now it's bad enough that there are citizens of our own country that would attack these freedoms. However, something that really gets me pissed off is citizens of foreign countries that feel they somehow have the right to interfere with our freedoms. After all, who are they to tell me what I can and cannot do? This brings us back to Rebecca Peters. She is the epitome of foreign enemies of our constitution.

Punishing The Good Guys

The first thing that we must understand is her perspective on gun control. The sad part about this next statement is that she is probably correct. If you've read the “Global War On Your Guns” by Wayne LaPierre, you may have seen this quote by Rebecca Peters: LaPierre, W. (2006, p. 5) "there is in America a very entrenched idea that the purpose of gun laws is to punish bad guys." One of her principles is that gun control should not be about punishing criminals. She absolutely believes that people should not be able to defend themselves so guns should be removed from law-abiding citizens as well. The sad truth is that gun control advocates want to take guns so they can have more power over us, not to punish criminals. Getting pissed yet?

She Wants Americans To Give Up Their Sovereignty

During a debate with Wayne LaPierre, sometime before 2007, the moderator asked Rebecca peters if she believed US citizens should be forced to obey a United Nations gun ban treaty? After some rhetoric about nuclear arms treaties and governments all coming together she finally answered the question with this: “So yes, the US should acknowledge that it is part of the world, it's not exempt from the world's problems, in fact it contributes disproportionately to many of the world's problems, and it should cooperate with other UN member states to solve those problems.” NRA: Great UN Gun Debate (Part 1) (2007, 1:12). In his book, “The Global War On Your Guns” Wayne LaPierre (2006, p. 1) goes on to say, "she is very forthright in saying that the gun prohibition movement was aimed squarely at americans:…"

Conclusion

Foreign countries and their citizens think they have the right to dictate to Americans that they should give up their guns. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to try to make that happen. That should Piss You Off!
