Maybe Not An SHTF Or Home Defense Setup, But…

The Kicklite Tactical Stock by Phoenix Technology from Brownells.com is a great tactical addition for your Remington 870 12 gauge pump shotgun. However, the way I set my shotgun up is not necessarily an SHTF or home defense setup. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a big boom stick with high capacity and decent aiming ability, then the way I upgraded my 870 is what you are looking for.

For the tactical upgrade on my Remington 870 12 gauge, I not only installed the Kicklite Tactical Stock, but I added a Choate 5 round magazine extension and left the stock 28 inch barrel in place. When loaded with 1 oz. slugs I can put a lot of lead on target and the recoil spring in the stock reduces the abuse to my shoulder. In reality, this weapon will find its usefulness mostly in the field chasing Whitetail but self defense duties shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Condition Of Your Shotgun

The condition of your shotgun will be the determining factor on how long it takes to actually do the tactical conversion. Barring any issues, it shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to install the Kicklite Recoil System and the Choate 5 round extension magazine. Knowing how to break down your Remington 870 shotgun beforehand plays a role as well. If you haven’t done it yet, figure in a little more time for the learning curve.

Conclusion

If you like to tinker with and modify your guns then you will thoroughly enjoy this upgrade. It may be a bit bulky for home defense and fall short of expectations in a WROL or SHTF situation but will certainly be appreciated in a pinch.
